Memorial Day Reflection
Happy Memorial Day
On this solemn day, I find myself looking back, honoring, and cherishing the memories of my relatives who "came home" from the relentless trials of WW1, WW2, the Vietnam War, and other challenging tours of duty. I guess that’s what happens when you spend way too much time messing around with family trees
Some never came home.
Remembering those who paid the ultimate sacrifice "Over there." Their lives, taken far too soon, continue to inspire gratitude and respect.
Thinking about those who returned yet left fragments of their souls and mental resilience on far-flung battlefields. They battled inner wars long after the physical battles ended, striving to rediscover the part of them that was forever changed.
Most of the heroes who came back from WW1 and WW2 have now journeyed to that "other home," a place beyond our grasp and understanding. Even if we don't know its coordinates, we feel its echoes in the emptiness they left behind.
Remembering is not easy, nor is it simple. It's a journey filled with profound emotions, a bittersweet amalgamation of love, loss, respect, and gratitude. When we remember them, their memories come alive, their smiles resonate, their courage enlightens. In those moments, it feels as if they have never truly left us.
On this Memorial Day, maybe take a moment to honor their bravery and cherish their memories. Or whatever makes sense to you. Happy Memorial Day to all.
