eBay Adventures OR You Can Learn a Lot from a Postcard

It all started as I searched for a vintage postcard of “Yesterday’s Main Street” at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. This iconic exhibit has always fascinated me since it feels like a living portal to the past—a place where you can almost step into a different time. I’ve always been drawn to the way this space captures the early 20th century so vividly, and it even inspired parts of my book, Flower in the River.

During my search, I came across a postcard that seemed ordinary at first but quickly became much more than just a piece of ephemera. It led me down a surprising path, uncovering unexpected connections and stories that I couldn’t have imagined when I clicked “Buy Now.”

What began as a simple eBay purchase quickly evolved into a small historical adventure.

I've been a writer, actor, photographer, and musician and have worked as a freelance journalist for magazines and papers since I was in my late teens.

My favorite writing job was working for an award-winning community newspaper in Saint Paul, the Park Bugle.

I’ve also taught others how to write for community newspapers at The Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis, MN. And, during the last few years, I became a family historian.
